Avoid these common Web Design pitfalls

Creating a website is an great opportunity to showcase your brand, but it’s easy to make mistakes that can hinder user experience and reduce engagement. Here are three common web design errors to avoid—and how to fix them.

1- Not Having a Clear Plan:

The most important part of a good website, which is often ignored, is having a solid plan in place. Jumping into web design without a solid plan is like building a house without blueprints. Without a clear strategy and plan in place, your site can will become messy, and probably fail to achieve what you wanted.

To tackle this, make sure to take time to think about your audience, your goals, and how your target audience should be able to navigate the site. For creating a site structure, a simple tool such as creating a MindMap on a tool such as Xmind can be really helpful. Having a good plan and strategy in place is half of the work in web design.

2- Cluttered and Overcomplicated Layout:

It’s tempting to fill your website with all the bells and whistles, but too much clutter can confuse visitors. You are better off to keep things simple. A clean, well-organized layout created from your plan makes it easier for people to find what they’re looking for, and it creates a much more pleasant browsing experience. Less is often more when it comes to web design- Don’t be afraid of white space too!

3- Neglecting Mobile Users:

With 60-70% of web traffic now coming from mobile users, having a mobile-friendly site is a non-negotiable. If your site is difficult to navigate on a smartphone or takes too long to load, you could lose potential customers. Make sure your website is responsive and works smoothly on all devices.

4- Weak Call-to-Actions:

A great-looking website won’t do much if visitors don’t have a clear way of taking action. Too often, people fail to put in sufficient CTAs, and they put them in the wrong places. Without clear CTAs, potential customers may leave without taking any action, like making a purchase or contacting you.

To avoid it, make sure each page has a clear Call-to-Action. Make sure you have a variety of CTAs in place, such as contact us, or book an appointment, etc. When drawing up your plan, make sure your site is designed to clearly guide your users towards taking the next step. At the end of the day, what is the point of having a site if it doesn’t encourage users to engage and interact?
